The Red Hot Chili Peppers return — with a new guitarist and some more cowbell, no less — with “The Adventure of Rain Dance Maggie,” the first single from forthcoming album “I’m With You” that hit the web on Monday (July 18).
“Hey now/ you’ve got to make it rain somehow,” Anthony Kiedis sings on the upbeat funk track, which recalls the group’s “Dani California” in tone. Josh Klinghoffer, the band’s former touring guitarist who has replaced John Frusciante full-time, fits in nicely on this track, with his screeching riffs contrasting with Flea’s bass lines and the use of cowbell at the end of the song.

Due out Aug. 30, “I’m With You” is the group’s long-awaited follow-up to 2006’s double CD “Stadium Arcadium,” which has sold 2.3 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Producer Rick Rubin told Billboard.com last month that Klinghoffer’s addition to RHCP changed the group’s dynamic on the album: “It sounds like the Red Hot Chili Peppers that you’ve never heard before,” he says.
No word on when the music video for “Rain Dance Maggie” will premiere, but Kreayshawn, the upstart female rapper of “Gucci Gucci” fame, is set to direct the clip.
