He’s had major successes as a musician, producer and songwriter and even dabbled in acting. Now, Rascal Flatts bassist Jay DeMarcus is adding author to his résume.
DeMarcus’ memoir, Shotgun Angels: My Story of Broken Roads and Unshakable Hope, is scheduled for release on April 30, 2019. Zondervan, a division of HarperCollins Christian Publishing, will publish the inspirational book, which DeMarcus will promote via a multi-city book tour.
“I’m really looking forward to sharing a pretty personal look at my path so far, as that isn’t something I’ve done yet,” DeMarcus said in a statement. “In Shotgun Angels, readers will hear never-before-told stories and get a glimpse into what it was like for me coming from Columbus, Ohio, and my journey to Nashville. My ultimate goal is that the book will encourage people that no matter where they are in their lives, they can find hope, comfort and strength in their faith.”
While the book is not yet available for review, press materials indicate that DeMarcus’ trademark humor will be front and center in what is expected to be a candid autobiography with themes of hope and faith.
Rascal Flatts, signed to Big Machine Records, have released 10 albums and charted more than 50 singles on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart in the past 18 years.
Side projects are nothing new for DeMarcus, who has produced music for Reba McEntire, Chicago, Ronnie Dunn, Michael English, Jason Crabb and several other artists. In 2017, he expanded into film production, signing on as a producer of an adventure film titled “All Shook Up,” which is still in development. He has previously appeared in Hannah Montana: The Movie and in TV series, including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Nashville and Drop Dead Diva.
The memoir looks to be the first of several new ventures for DeMarcus, who got his start in the Christian music band East to West. He has scheduled a press conference for Oct. 24 to announce another project.
Kathy Armistead Olen with Nashville-based agency Atticus Brand Partners represented DeMarcus in the book deal.
