As first reported here last week, Sonic Youth will fulfill its contract with Geffen with the Dec. 12 release of “The Destroyed Room: B-sides and Rarities.” The 12-track set will also be released as a double-vinyl set early next year on the band’s own Goofin’ Records label.
“The Destroyed Room” begins with “Fire Engine Dream,” a previously unreleased outtake from 2003’s “Sonic Nurse” and also includes the first airings of “Queen Anne Chair” and “Three Part Sectional Love Seat,” from 2001’s “Noho Furniture Sessions.”
The album also rounds up tracks from such compilations as “All Tomorrow’s Parties 1.1” and “At Home With the Groovebox,” B-sides and international bonus tracks and “Blink,” the band’s contribution to the 1999 “Pola X” soundtrack.
Sonic Youth will focus on touring for the rest of the year, beginning Dec. 8 with the Nightmare Before Christmas festival in England, which guitarist/vocalist Thurston Moore is curating. Visits to South America, Japan and China are in the planning stages for 2007.
