Hip-hop newcomer Wale and legendary go-go group UCB will perform as the official house band of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards on September 13th.
Wale will collaborate live with The All-American Rejects, Pitbull, 3OH!3, and other artists, weaving his trademark go-go-infused hip-hop into some of the year’s biggest hits, as well as perform his new single “World Tour.”
As an unknown, unsigned artist, Wale performed with DJ and producer Mark Ronson at the 2007 VMAs when Ronson led the house band. Ronson signed Wale last April to his label Allido Records, helping the Washington D.C. native break nationally.
“This is a monumental point in my career,” Wale said in a statement. “UCB and I will be adding an extra element to the VMAs as we bring our signature sound of go-go music to the stage.”
Wale’s debut album “Attention Deficit” was pushed back from a September 22nd release and is now slated to drop October 20th. The album featuresother tracks like “Pretty Girls,” and first single “Chillin,” which peaked at No. 18 on the Heatseekers chart. Producers include Ronson, Rich Kleiman, Cool & Dre, Sleepwalkers, Sean C and LV, and Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio.
“Attention Deficit” will be the first release after a joint venture between Allido and distributor Interscope.
