Rapper Cam’ron (real name: Cameron Giles) was arrested Monday on the outskirts of New York’s Times Square. Police pulled the rapper’s Land Rover over on 42nd St. and 11th Avenue after the vehicle made an illegal lane switch without signaling. Inside the car, officers discovered a loaded .22 caliber pistol, a small amount of marijuana, and a forged New York City Fire Department parking permit.
Cam’ron pled not guilty to charges of possession of a forged instrument and possession of a weapon (both felonies) and possession of marijuana (a misdemeanor). He was arraigned yesterday and released on $3,500 bail. The rapper is due back in court Aug. 9.
Cam’ron is riding high on the strength of his latest Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam album “Come Home With Me,” which is No. 39 in its 10th week on The Billboard 200. The single “Oh Boy” featuring Juelz Santana is No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Tracks tally.
The rapper will make his film debut this September in “Paid in Full,” which also stars Mekhi Phifer and Wood Harris.
