Swizz Beatz may have been a little inebriated on his last birthday (Sept. 13), but that didn’t stop the rapper/producer from hitting the studio. That same night, as he popped bottles in celebration, Swizz produced the pounding beat and catchy verses to “It’s Me Snitches,” the first single from his upcoming album, “One Man Band Man.”
“I was just drunk,” he admits with a laugh. “I didn’t want to go out to the club, so I just chilled in the studio. I knew I had a concept for the song, so I went in the booth and it just came out.” Snags, Neo da Matrix, Just Blaze and Kanye West are among the other producers on “One Man Band Man,” which Swizz considers his “first real album.” Coldplay’s Chris Martin also appears on “Part of the Plan.”
Also out this week is rapper Talib Kweli’s sixth album, “Ear Drum” (Blacksmith Music label/Warner Bros.) The MC is joined by a host of big-name contributors on the project, including producers will.i.am, Madlib, Hi-Tek and Kanye West. Norah Jones, UGK and labelmate Jean Grae make guest appearances.
“We need to challenge our audience, but we also need to challenge ourselves to know that whatever our new experiences are, we can write about them, be creative and bring that to an audience without them feeling alienated,” Kweli says.
