A wave of coordinated raids has revealed an extensive Internet pirate network in Germany.
More than 15 individuals have been detained by German law officials, who also seized 19 computer servers, more than 40,000 CD-Rs and DVD-Rs and more than 200 PCs.
The raids were conducted March 16 and 18 at more than 750 separate locations across Germany. The targeted sites were thought to be tied to “release groups,” underground networks of pirates that have been responsible for illegally distributing more than 500 films since 2001.
The German Federation Against Copyright Theft has been investigating the groups for more than two years, and believe that they have illegally pirated major films such as “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “Cheaper by the Dozen,
