Japanese rock band RADWIMPS teamed up with conductor Hirofumi Kurita and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra in December 2017 for a special evening featuring fully orchestrated versions of the band’s songs from the animated blockbuster Your Name.
The songs written exclusively for the movie — Japan’s top-grossing film of 2016 — were re-imagined for a full orchestra by cellist and composer Seigen Tokuzawa, who assisted the band when they were scoring the film. The classical reinterpretations were performed live while the movie played onscreen, captivating the 10,000 people who flocked to the Tokyo International Forum for the elegant two-day affair on Dec. 4 and 5, 2017.
This live-to-film performance will be released April 18 on DVD and Blu-ray featuring the complete concert from Dec. 5. The release will also include a special feature with footage from backstage and rehearsals as well as the encore.
The package comes with a booklet with numerous photos from the concert and the full score for the movie version of the hit song “Zenzenzense.”
