Nothing says “thank you” like free, previously unreleased music. Radiohead is giving away two new tracks to consumers who bought its latest album, “The King of Limbs,” from its website before the album was made available at retail. “It’s a thank you for being SO supportive of what we do,” the band wrote in an email received in the U.S. Tuesday night.
The two new songs, “Supercollider” and “The Butcher,” were released as a limited-edition 12″ single for last week’s Record Store Day. “The Butcher” was recorded and mixed during “The King of Limbs” sessions but the band “couldn’t make it work on the album.” “Supercollider” was started during the album sessions and finished last month.
“This is not part of a new loyalty points scheme, a Radiohead clubcard or even an air miles redeemable reward type thing,” the band added. “It is just a big old-fashioned thank you!”
To download the tracks, consumers can log into “The King of Limbs” website and find a “download” button in the order history section.
“The King of Limbs” become available for preorder from the band’s website in February. The album was released to traditional retail on March 22. In its first three weeks of release the album has sold 156,000 units in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
