Radiohead has confirmed 16 European summer concert dates for 2008, including an appearance at Denmark’s giant Roskilde Festival.
The British alternative rock band’s first confirmed concert for the year will take place June 7 at the Malahide in Dublin. The tour, announced today on Radiohead’s official Web site, will roll on to France, Spain, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium and Germany.
Billboard broke the news in October that Radiohead would hit the road for an international tour in 2008 in support of its new release, “In Rainbows.” Although today’s news confirms only European dates, expect news in the coming weeks for appearances in the United States and elsewhere.
“America and other countries will be announced soon,” Radiohead’s manager Bryce Edge of Courtyard Management, tells Billboard, “but the details haven’t been finalized yet. “
Edge wouldn’t rule out plans for dates in far-flung markets such as Asia, Australia or even South Africa. “Its all pending,” he continues. “It depends on how much touring the band wants to do. But we are looking at things outside of America and Europe.”
Radiohead became the industry’s biggest news story of the year when the group recorded “In Rainbows” independently, and issued it digitally through its official Web site on Oct. 10, allowing downloaders to name a price to own a virtual copy. That option will cease on Dec. 10, according to a post today on the band’s site.
