Opposites attract, and isn’t that a bitch? You can love someone and still find them completely mind-boggling. The people we are closest to are often the ones that get deepest under our skin, and yet, being with someone just like ourselves is never as appealing as it sounds convenient.
Krewella turn this frustration into a beautiful refrain on “Ain’t That Why.” It’s a cute message for two sisters and creative partners. They sent the rough idea over to R3hab, and he saw the appeal immediately.
“R3hab was one of the first electronic artists we ever played a show with,” Krewella says in a joint emailed statment. “It felt like a full circle moment when he showed interest in our demo and decided to pursue the collaboration with us.”
R3hab helped flesh out the production, which honors Krewella’s rock’n’roll spirit with crystal-clear guitar. Its gentle melody leaves plenty of room for the song’s message to be heard, though it delivers for the dance floor at the hook. It’s also a nice way for R3hab to show off his signature diversity following the release of his dynamic debut LP Trouble.
“I’ve always admired the Krewella girls for quality songs and hard work,” R3hab says in an emailed statement. “I’m really proud to have this track with them be the next chapter in my musical journey.”
“Ain’t That Why” is out now on R3hab’s label. Listen to it below.
