In association with Lifetime Networks, Queen Latifah is recording a series of vignettes aimed at spotlighting the issues most important to women and encouraging women to vote during the coming election year.
Set to kick off in January, the vignettes are part of Lifetime’s “Every Woman Counts” public service campaign. The spots — recorded during Queen Latifah’s “The Trav’lin’ Light Concert Tour” — feature the artist asking women to complete the sentence, “If I were president, I would …” The spots will air on Lifetime until Election Day (Nov. 4, 2008) and also air as broadband vignettes on myLifetime.com.
“We want to make sure that women, 52 percent of the population, get the opportunity to get their point across because they are shaping our country’s future,” said Queen Latifah in a statement. Launched in 1992, “Every Woman Counts” will be entering its fifth presidential election cycle.
Queen Latifah recently received a Grammy nomination for best traditional pop vocal album for her Verve release, “Trav’lin’ Light.”
