Queens Of The Stone Age is eyeing a March release for its third Interscope album. The as-yet-untitled set finds group leader Josh Homme flanked by multi-instrumentalist Troy Van Leeuwen, drummer Joey Castillo, guitarist Dave Catching and bassist Alain Johannes, the latter of whom is filling the bass slot left empty after the departure of Nick Oliveri earlier this year.
According to the band’s As previously reported, the group has been joined in the studio by Garbage vocalist Shirley Manson, Distillers frontwoman Brody Dalle and ZZ Top guitarist Billy F. Gibbons, but it’s unknown if their contributions will make the final cut. A horn section has also appeared on at least one tune.
The new album will be the follow-up to 2002’s “Songs for the Deaf,” which peaked at No. 17 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 909,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Homme has also been busy producing the upcoming album from rock act Millionaire, and will reprise his role behind the drum stool for the Eagles Of Death Metal’s Nov. 7 show as part of the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Long Beach, Calif.
In addition, QOTSA’s site reports that Oliveri recently turned up for an Eagles Of Death Metal show in Los Angeles, suggesting he and Homme have begun patching up the problems that led to the bassist’s departure. “They may not be playin’ together but they sure seemed like old friends genuinely glad to be hangin’ out together,” the site reports.
