Toronto DJ/producer PUSHER first hit the blogosphere last year, earning heaps of buzz with glittery re-works of dance-pop hits like Jack U & Kiesza’s “Take U There.” After returning earlier this summer with his viral collaboration alongside Mothica “Clear” — which has netted over 3 million spins on Spotify since its June premiere — the rising artist today fires back with his next cut “Tell You” featuring Hunnah.
His self-described “neon” style combines elements of trap, pop, ’90s R&B, and jazz, and “Tell Me” is no different — fusing a carefree, sunny instrumental with vocalist Hunnah’s R&B-inflected powerhouse hook, as she riffs on the repeated line “don’t wanna be the one to tell you.” The tune features on PUSHER’s forthcoming debut six-track “New Laces” EP, out August 26 via Black Butter Records.
Of the track’s genesis, he tells Billboard, “I’m so very pleased to be finally releasing ‘Tell You,’ a song I worked on with the immensely talented Hunnah, who is the only other collaborator on the EP from my home country of Canada. Hunnah chose to work on a primitive version of this instrumental track, even though it was one of the weirder demos I sent her, and I think we came away with something very special. Her vocals are amazing and bring a special feel and quality to the entire EP project.“
