Wes Scantlin, lead singer of modern rock act Puddle Of Mudd, was arrested yesterday (March 10) for allegedly fighting with his fiancee. Scantlin, 29, of Kansas City, Mo., and Michelle Rubin, 31, of Los Angeles, were both arrested for investigation of domestic violence and booked at the Ventura County jail in Fillmore, Calif. They were released after posting $20,000 bond each.
Scantlin apparently was en route to shoot a music video when he began fighting with Rubin around 8:30 a.m. on the shoulder of Highway 126 in nearby Piru, authorities said. Several people called authorities by cell phone to report seeing a man forcing a woman into a Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle, driven by a third person, sped off and a witness who followed it said the struggle continued.
Sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol officers later stopped the vehicle and arrested the couple. The reason for the argument was not disclosed.
Puddle Of Mudd is scheduled to begin its first headlining North American tour of tomorrow in Austin, Texas. At deadline, it was unclear whether the arrests would interfere with the tour.
Released last August, Puddle Of Mudd’s debut Flawless/Geffen/Interscope album, “Come Clean,” has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of 1 million copies. While the album peaked two weeks ago at No. 9 on The Billboard 200, single “Blurry” is No. 1 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart for an eighth straight week, and in its fifth week on top of the Mainstream Rock Tracks tally.
