If you’re one of the millions who watched PSY and Snoop Dogg’s new “Hangover” video, then you caught the message about the K-pop superstar’s upcoming new single “Daddy.”
Reportedly coming in August, “Daddy” is PSY’s forthcoming official single with “Hangover” acting as a pre-release track. This rollout method is common in K-pop where artists typically release their official single, music video and album all at the same time. Occasionally, an act will drop a pre-release song, sometimes with an accompanying video, to further drum up anticipation.
And for fans who couldn’t get the zippy synths from “Gangnam Style” or “Gentleman” out of their head, get ready for another danceable anthem.
PSY’s record label YG Entertainment describes “Daddy” as a “fun, dance song” and revealed it will drop in August.
YG’s CEO Yang Hyun Suk added that it was the Korean MC’s idea to drop the hip-hop-flavored “Hangover” ahead of the dance track. “PSY himself was the person who created the ‘Gangnam Style’ syndrome all over the globe,” Yang said. “It is only natural that we let him do what he wants…rather than analyzing the ‘mega-viral’ formula of his previous songs and forcing himself to create another one like it, doing what he wants to do now is the answer.”
