
Every Monday, Spotify graces its users with an updated “Discover Weekly” playlist, which compiles songs curated to the listening activity of the user. It’s the easiest way to discover a new favorite song. For Boston native Alyse Vellturo, better known as pronoun, Discover Weekly helped her find artists to rework her debut EP, There’s no one new around you. After conversations with more than 60 artists she contacted through Facebook, she found her four favorites and Use passport to choose a new location was born.
Funeral Advantage, Future Generations, YEYEY and Charles Fauna put their own production spin on pronoun’s vocals, creating a unique take on each track. It’s a never-been-done collaboration of indie artists helping indie artists.
“After finishing up There’s no one new around you, I started thinking about remixes,” pronoun tells Billboard. “Shortly after surfing HypeM’s remix section, I remembered that I really don’t like remixes that much. It dawned on me to contact small artists that I found on the Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify and see if they were open to reproducing my songs in their own style. Found their contacts on Facebook, and these were the four that made the cut!”
pronoun is set to play at SXSW and Savannah Stopover Music Festival this year.
