One of the original purveyors of the swelling house revivalist movement (and formerly of the French Express crew), prodigious DJ/producer Chris Malinchak returns with the brand-new single “Tell Me,” featuring Damon Scott, and premiering exclusively via Billboard.
For those unfamiliar, the Ultra Records-signed Malinchak, who took a brief hiatus after earning global attention back in 2013 with the saccharine, synth-led “So Good to Me,” has earned praise from everyone from BBC DJ Pete Tong to superstar Adele (who shared the track on Twitter and called it “beautiful”). He even collaborated with Mikky Ekko back in 2014 on standout cut “Stranger.”
But by the looks of it, 2016 will be the year of his proper ascent, as “Tell Me” delivers smooth, soulful layers accented with funky guitar and one earworm of a dance beat. And singer Damon Scott — who was also featured on Storm Queen’s “Look Right Through” — provides lyrics prime for late nights out: “Where we go people watch us, wanna follow/ Nothing can determine who you are.”
“Making this felt like meeting up with a friend you haven’t seen for too long,” Malinchak told Billboard of the song’s origins. “Think of it as a warmup….we’re just getting started!”
