The grand jury investigation into the Providence, R.I., club fire that killed 100 people during a Great White concert in February is still under way, and — despite published reports to the contrary — indictments are not expected to be handed down in the coming days.
“We’re not finished with our work, and the Attorney General is pleased with the progress of the investigation,” a spokesperson for Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch tells Billboard Bulletin. “Our goal has not changed, and that is to try however we can to determine if it was a crime or crimes that caused the horrific fire.”
Asked whether Station club owners Michael and Jeffrey Derderian, Great White tour manager Daniel Biechele or any members of the Jack Russell-led band would be criminally charged, the spokesperson says Lynch “has said there was no short list” of potential targets for indictment.
“Our investigation is going where time and the evidence leads it,” the spokesperson says, adding, “We’re definitely closer to the end [of the investigation] than to the beginning.”
