The Latin “Voice of the Moment” is Prince Royce, according to Univision’s Premios Juventud. He was the big winner at the audience choice youth awards, which aired tonight (July 21) from Miami’s Bank United Center on the Spanish-language network.
Royce was chosen by fans as the “Voz del Momento” and received four other awards, including best video and tour. His latest single, “Corazón Sin Cara,” has been on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart for 51 weeks.
The Dominican bilingual pop bachata singer from New York opened the show with Daddy Yankee, performing their hit collaboration “Ven Conmigo.” Anthony “Romeo” Santos of Aventura sang his hit single “You,” the first off of his upcoming solo album, for the first time on television, causing a wave of hysteria among girls in the live audience.
Pitbull, winner of the awards for favorite ringtone and urban artist, performed “Give Me Everything (Tonight)” with Ne-Yo and Nayer.
Ricky Martin, who took home the PJ statue for social networking, appeared with reggaeton duo Wisin y Yandel, who won the award for favorite CD (“Los Vaqueros, El Regreso”).
Luis Fonsi sang his latest hit, “Gritar”.
It was the eighth edition of the Premios Juventud, which are decided by Internet voting. In addition to music, the awards include film, telenovelas and sports categories.
Antonio Banderas received a special “Supernova” lifetime achievement honor, presented to him by Ricky Martin. And telenovela actor William Levy won the “¡Está Buenisimo!” (“He’s Hot!”) award. Levy, who appears as Jennifer Lopez’s lover in the video for her song “I´m Into You”, was rumored last week to have caused her breakup wth Marc Anthony.
