Veteran U.K. rock act Primal Scream’s new album, “Riot City Blues,” will arrive Aug. 22 in North America via Columbia. The set opened last week at No. 5 on the U.K. album chart; the single “Country Girl” also reached No. 5, Primal Scream’s best-ever singles peak and first top 10 hit since “Kowalski” reached No. 7 in 1997.
The next single from the album, “Dolls (Sweet Rock n Roll),” is due for U.K. release on Aug. 7. It will be augmented with the non-album tracks “Bloods” and “Zeppelin Blues While Thinking of Robert Parker” plus a cover of Johnny Thunders’ “It’s Not Enough.”
The North American edition of “Riot City Blues” will feature as-yet-unannounced extra tracks, according to the label. Primal Scream’s prior album, 2002’s “Evil Heat,” came out in North America via Sony International but failed to reach any Billboard charts.
After a handful of festival appearances this month, the band will be off the road until November, when it stages a two-week tour of the United Kingdom.
