Double-headliner bills don’t come any bigger than the POTUS and the Queen of Pop.
Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show hosted two of its highest-profile guests on Thursday’s edition when President Obama and Madonna joined in for a chat, a laugh and a live performance.
Although she just wrapped her massively successful Rebel Heart Tour, Madonna closed out the show with a classic. The pop veteran performed her downtempo hit “Borderline,” originally released back in 1983.
The singer, who last appeared on the show in April 2015 to perform “Bitch I’m Madonna,” never shared the stage with Obama. Though she did admit to being ”speechless” when she got a chance rub shoulders with the commander-in-chief backstage.
The outgoing President appeared at the top of the show when he “slow jammed the news,” with backing from Questlove, Fallon and the Roots.

Obama, who became the first sitting president to appear on the show, was a model of precision timing as he delivered his speech while Fallon dropped in with his “slow jam” voice. “He created lots of jobs for you and me, he’s got one more left for Hillary,” chimed in Tariq.
The pair then sat for an interview, with Obama admitting he wasn’t sentimental about his last eight months in the job. “The work keeps you occupied,” he said. “You don’t want to be crying in the Oval Office.” And is Bernie Sanders going to endorse Hillary Clinton? “I’m sure they’re going to have a conversation,” was Obama’s diplomatic response.

“Speaking of reality TV…” said Fallon turning the conversation to Donald Trump, “do you think the Republicans are happy with their choice?” “We are,” Obama responded, “but I don’t know how they feel.” It was one of many laughs on Trump.
And what are Obama’s plans once he leaves office? To get some sleep. And go “somewhere warm” for a few weeks break.
During his two terms, Obama has made appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, David Letterman’s Late Show, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. He had previously appeared on a special episode of Late Night in 2012, in which he (as the “Preezy of the United Steezy”) slow jammed the news with the late-night host. Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump have all appeared on the show.
