
President Obama urged lawmakers and citizens on Tuesday (Jan. 5) to join together on new gun legislation in light of shootings that have continually plagued the nation, from Sandy Hook to San Bernardino. Speaking from the White House, the president promised new executive actions to tighten gun loopholes and became tearful as he talked about the children who are often victims of this type of violence.

Several notable celebrities took to Twitter in response to his speech, including Questlove, who wrote, “In light of all that was experienced in 2015 #StopGunViolence shouldn’t even be a question amongst US citizens,” and Janelle Monáe, who dared Congress to “put your money where your mouth is.”
