With five nods each, Juanes and salsero Gilberto Santa Rosa led the nominations for the annual Premios lo Nuestro awards. Juanes is up for best artist and album of the year as well as for three awards in the rock category. Santa Rosa is also up for album of the year and male artist of the year and for three tropical music awards.
Following in number of nominations, with four each, are Aventura, Wisin & Yandel, Maná and regional Mexican acts El Chapo de Sinaloa and La Arrolladora Banda el Limón. The lone surprise among the lead nominees is salsa duo NG2, which also garnered four nominations.
Premios lo Nuestro awards are given in 30 categories, representing pop, tropical, regional Mexican, rock and urban music. Nominations are based on Radio and Records’ Latin charts for the time period of October 1, 2007 to Sept 30, 2008. Winners are chosen by viewers who vote online.
The awards will air live on March 26 on the Univision network.
