Scott Herren will return to his Prefuse 73 project for “Security Screenings,” due Feb. 7 via Warp. The project is described as a “transition” from, as opposed to a follow-up to, Prefuse’s 2005 effort “Surrounded by Silence,” which debuted at No. 8 on Billboard’s Top Electronic Albums tally.
“It’s a collection of songs based on reactions to certain things that happened through the course of doing press, touring and recording for the past year or so,” Herren says. “God bless airport security in America and the countries that are a part of the ‘Coalition of the Willing.'”
The album features two guest spots originally intended for “Surrounded by Silence”: Four Tet on “Creating Cyclical Headaches” and TV On The Radio’s Babatunde Adebimpe on “17 We Leave You in a Cloud of Thick Smoke and Sleep Outro.”
The Barcelona-based Herren will return to his Atlanta hometown for a New Year’s Eve show at Tabernacle alongside Sound Tribe Sector 9. Prefuse will also perform the night before at Washington D.C.’s Black Cat.
