British music services organization PPL has struck a reciprocal deal with the Belgian performer society URADEX, covering rights from public performance, broadcast and private copying of sound recordings in the U.K. and Belgium.
The accord, unveiled today, has generated immediate receipts for both organizations’ members, and performers from both countries will receive backdated royalties from 1996.
“Belgium is a diverse music market and is very open to U.K. repertoire and we are therefore delighted to put this agreement in place which has generated immediate receipts for our performer members,” comments PPL head of international, Laurence Oxenbury, in a statement.
While URADEX has experienced problems with distributing monies collected in the past, PPL notes, the appointment of new management at the beginning of 2007 and the support of other societies have solved those issues.
PPL licenses recorded music on behalf of more than 3,500 record companies and 47,000 performers.
