British collecting society Phonographic Performance Ltd. has signed a bilateral agreement with PPL India. Through the deal, Calcutta-based PPL India will represent British independent labels in India for broadcast and public performance. PPL U.K. will be able to collect and distribute licence fees to Indian labels through PPL India.
It is the 19th such agreement inked by London-based PPL in recent years. Separate agreements are in place with SoundExchange in the United States; Australia’s PPCA; Holland’s SENA; Germany’s GVL; Canada’s AVLA and France’s SPPF, among others.
Britain’s PPL celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. The society has 3,000 record-company members and 30,000 registered performers. Last year, PPL’s revenue totaled £81 million ($149 million).
