Universal’s Polydor label in the U.K. is to release U.S. hip-hop act Soulja Boy’s new material in a mini album format on June 22. The set features five new tracks plus his 2007 hit “Crank That” from his debut album “SouljaBoyTellem.com.”
Entitled “iSouljaBoyTellem,” the release will feature current single “Kiss Me Thru the Phone” featuring Sammie and forthcoming single “Yamaha Mama” featuring Sean Kingston. It will retail at £4.99 ($8.27) in digital format and £5.99 ($9.92) in physical format.
Following the success of the Pussycat Dolls’ “Mini Collection” — which has sold 70,000 units since its release in the U.K. on April 27, according to Polydor — the label has designed the new release to target younger buyers with a smaller disposable income, and higher usage of mobile phones and the Internet.
“iSouljaBoyTellem” will be extensively marketed with online campaigns on Bebo, msn, Sonic Network and Gorilla Nation. Additionally, Soulja Boy’s pages on MySpace, Bebo, Facebook and Twitter will be used to promote the album.
Soulja Boy, who has a large online following, has already sold 70,000 downloads for “Kiss Me Thru the Phone.” As a result, the song — which isn’t physically released until June 15 — has reached No. 6 on the U.K. Singles Chart.
“iSouljaBoyTellem” will be a U.K.-only release.
