Canada’s album of the year award, the Polaris Music Prize, is to be screened on TV.
The Sept. 29 award ceremony will hit Canadian television tomorrow (Nov. 8) courtesy of the Citytv channels. The show, a condensed version of the awards event at Toronto’s Phoenix Theater, will be aired in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Dundas, Ont. and Vancouver.
Psychedelic/electronic artist Caribou took the $20,000 Canadian ($16,889) prize, which was decided by an 11-member jury. Seven of the 10 nominated acts played live at the gala and three – Weakerthans, Caribou and Stars – offered up special video performances.
The ceremony was broadcast live on CBC Radio 3 and Sirius Satellite Radio.
