Music agent Jonny Podell has sold his partnership interest in Evolution Talent Agency and announced the formation of his new company, Podell Talent Agency.
Former partner David Zedeck bought Podell’s 50% interest and is now the sole owner of Evolution, whose large talent roster includes Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Christina Milian, Hilary Duff, JC Chasez, Justin Timberlake, Lil’ Romeo, Eve and Method Man.
Podell, who sold his 50% share for an undisclosed sum, tells Billboard.biz that his and Zedeck’s plans for the future “were not the same. We wanted to go into different directions.”
Primarily, says Podell, he wanted to work with fewer acts rather than more. Evolution’s roster numbers more than 100 acts.
Podell’s new roster includes both Alice Cooper and the Allman Brothers Band, the first two acts he booked more than 30 years ago, as well as Van Halen and Peter Gabriel, both of whom he co-books with William Morris Agency.
Among his developing acts are Gavin DeGraw and Silvertide.
“I’d like to have around 15 acts,” he says. “I’m very happy toning it back down to a smaller shop where I can be on top of every single date.”
The staff of the New York-based Podell Talent Agency includes two ex-Evolution employees, CJ Strock and Noah Perabo.
Zedeck did not return calls by press time.
