American female vocalists have a winning week on Billboard’s pan-European charts. Pink’s “Funhouse” (LaFace/Sony Music Entertainment) reaches the Top 100 Albums summit for the first time in its tenth week, while Katy Perry begins a third week atop Eurochart Hot 100 Singles with “Hot N Cold” (Virgin/EMI).
Pink’s album spent its first two weeks on the chart at No. 2 in November but has been climbing again in recent weeks. Its best European ranking this week is No. 2 in Switzerland, but “Funhouse” is also up 6-5 in Austria and 18-15 in the United Kingdom. The former Eurochart No. 1 “So What” is down 10-15 on that survey, but its successor “Sober” is up 37-26 on the U.K. chart.
Kings of Leon’s “Only By The Night” (Hand Me Down/Sony Music Entertainment) improves again, 4-2 overall, after moving 2-1 in Flanders and holding at No. 2 in Ireland. The album slips 1-2 in the United Kingdom, but the quartet is enjoying healthy catalog sales there, up 53-40 with its previous set “Because of the Times” and re-entering the top 75 at No. 66 with “A-ha Shake Heartbreak.”
Seal holds down the pan-European No. 3 spot with “Soul” (Warner Bros.), which is No. 1 again in France and Wallony and up 5-4 in Greece. Duffy’s “Rockferry” (A&M/Universal), which returned to the Top 100 Albums peak last week, falls back to No. 4, despite climbing 2-1 in Denmark and 20-2 in Finland.
Amy Macdonald’s “This Is The Life” (Vertigo/Universal) is up 6-5 on the pan-European survey, its highest ranking since late October. It’s up 4-2 in Italy, 3-2 in Greece, 7-4 in Flanders, 11-8 in Greece, and holds at No. 3 in Switzerland.
AC/DC’s “Black Ice” (Columbia/Sony BMG) slips 5-6 overall, while Irish pop-rock band the Script races 28-7 with its self-titled Phonogenic/RCA debut. The album opened on the U.K. chart at No. 1 last August, prompting a No. 9 start on Top 100 Albums. New U.K. TV advertising and discounting sends it back 6-1 there on weekly sales of almost 33,000 and a running total of 615,000. It’s also back up 5-3 in Ireland.
Beyoncé’s “I Am…Sasha Fierce” (Columbia/Sony BMG) also re-enters the composite top ten, 13-8, after climbing 10-8 in the United Kingdom and holding at No. 1 in Ireland. The new name in the Europe-wide top ten is German classical crossover quintet Adoro, whose eponymous album for Soda climbs 2-1 in Germany to fuel a 15-9 climb overall. The Killers’ “Day & Age” (Vertigo/Universal) rounds out the aggregate top ten, falling 7-10.
Perry’s Eurochart reign continues thanks to a continuing clean sweep of No. 1s in the GSA territories (Germany, Switzerland, Austria). “Hot N Cold” is also up 4-2 in Flanders, 3-2 in Sweden and holds at No. 2 in Norway and Wallony. Perry is currently on a largely sold-out North American tour, after which she starts a European itinerary in Stockholm Feb.22.
