Pink has been unveiled as the ambassador of motor sport V8 Supercars Australia.
As part of the new arrangement, Pink fronts a new nationwide multi-million dollar TV campaign, which features the stars of the sport and sees her singing the hit “Get The Party Started.”
Pink, whose career is guided by the Australian artist manager Roger Davies, is a phenomenon in this part of the world. Her 2009 “Funhouse” tour of Australia was a record-setter, shifting upward of 658,000 tickets across 58 arena dates and generating more than $80 million Australian ($71 million) at the box office. The “Funhouse” (LaFace/Sony Music) album was the country’s second best-seller of 2009, according to labels body ARIA.
“So why Pink? She’s the greatest female artist on the planet in my books,” said V8 Supercars Australia chairman Tony Cochrane in a statement. “She’s not afraid to be different. She’s bold, she’s outspoken and she’s unapologetic. She’s the most popular modern day artist in this country by a very long margin. She’s cool. For all of those reasons V8 Supercars and Pink are the perfect DNA match.”
The V8 Supercars Australia ad — which went live Feb. 11 — was taped during the Sydney leg of Pink’s tour, and was shot by acclaimed music video director Dave Meyers.
According to the sport’s governing body, more than 1.7 million people attended a V8 Supercar Championship Series event in 2009 and more than seven million tuned in to live broadcasts on the free-to-air Seven Network.
Pink will serve as ambassador to V8 Supercars Australia from 2010 until 2012.
