Phoenix has apologized for working with R. Kelly amid the mounting sexual assault allegations against the singer. The French band worked with R. Kelly on a remix of their song “Trying To Be Cool” in 2013.
“We are deeply horrified by the stories of abuse surrounding R. Kelly,” the band tweeted on Jan. 10. “We regret that we were not both more informed and more discerning when we worked with him previously. We fully support all victims of sexual abuse, and it’s our hope that there will be a path to justice.”
Phoenix joins artists like Lady Gaga and John Legend who have spoken out against R. Kelly since the release of the Lifetime docuseries Surviving R. Kelly.
