Phil Walden Jr., son of the late Capricorn Records co-founder Phil Walden, died in a one-car accident on Tuesday night in Atlanta, police told Macon.com.
Walden, 48, was apparently leaving an athletic club in his truck when the accident occurred.
“It appeared the victim placed the vehicle in reverse, and then noticed his sunglasses had fallen outside of his truck,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said in a news release, according to the paper. He then attempted to grab the glasses while keeping his foot on the brake, but the vehicle rolled back and pinned him against a pillar, the report said.

Walden Jr. was taken to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 9 p.m., a spokeswoman for the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office told the paper, noting that he died of “crush and blunt-force injuries.”
Phil Walden Sr. cofounded Capricorn – home of the Allman Brothers and, later, Widespread Panic, Cake and 311 – in 1970. He had previously managed Al Green, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge and others. He died of cancer in 2006 at age 66.
Phil Jr. was Walden’s oldest son. He is survived by his wife and four children.
