There were many musical highlights from the 2014 GRAMMYs last night. One of the night’s biggest winners was Pharrell Williams, who won Producer of the Year and spoke on the behalf of Album of the Year winners Daft Punk on several occasions (they won a bunch).

But Williams also got the Internet gabbing—specifically Twitter—about his massive tan hat. Many joked that he looked like a park ranger. After the show, Pharrell stopped to talk about his big wins and, of course, was eventually asked about his lid.

“It’s Vivienne Westwood,” Pharrell says. “It’s a Buffalo hat. This gentleman by the name of Malcolm McLaren [designed it]. [He has a] huge history. And I just liked it.”
McLaren (now deceased) was a U.K. designer and former beau of Westwood’s. He also managed the Sex Pistols, even producing a few albums of his own. His 1983 debut, “Duck Rock,” produced the single “Buffalo Gals.” The partnering video features extras wearing the exact hat Pharrell wore last night.
