South African fans will be among the first to hear material from Pharrell Williams’ repeatedly delayed Interscope solo debut, “In My Mind,” when the rapper headlines the People’s Celebration series of concerts this spring in South Africa.
Williams will join Snoop Dogg, Sean Paul, Mario and Rihanna for shows at Johannesburg Stadium on April 27, Durban’s ABSA Stadium on April 29 and Cape Town’s Green Point Stadium on May 1. Several South African acts will support at the shows, which are being billed as “the biggest ever line-up of hip-hop heavyweights and R&B superstars” ever seen in South Africa.
The concerts are being staged in celebration of Premier Foods becoming the largest completely black-owned company in South Africa. Premier, which is home to some of South Africa’s biggest bread, flour and rice brands, will launch contests for free tickets and cash prizes in conjunction with the shows.
The shows will be filmed by SABC 1 for broadcast, reaching 23 million people across South Africa.
