Rhino Records will celebrate the career of legendary folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary Nov. 11 with two new releases — a four-disc box set including previously unreleased tracks and an all-new studio album, the band’s first in eight years.
“Peter, Paul & Mary: Carry It On” will include five hours of music over four CDs spanning 1960-2003, and will come packaged with a bonus DVD featuring archival TV and festival performances. Hits like “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “If I Had a Hammer,” “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” “Where Have All the Flowers Gone,” “500 Miles” and “Puff, the Magic Dragon” will be included, alongside tracks band members Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey and Mary Travers recorded before forming the trio in 1961.
The bonus DVD will feature, among other performances, a rendition of “If I Had a Hammer” from the 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington, a version of “Leaving on a Jet Plane” performed with its author John Denver and “Jane Jane” live on “The Andy Williams Show.”
Out the same day, the all-new studio set “In These Times” features 12 songs, written by the likes of Pete Seeger, Allen Shamblin and Gene Nelson and produced by Stookey and Yarrow. It is the band’s first new album since 1995’s “Lifelines” (Warner Bros.). Two of the songs — “It’s Magic” and “Don’t Laugh at Me” — will be included on “Carry It On.”
Peter, Paul & Mary were one of the biggest folk groups of the ’60s, helping lead that decade’s folk revival. The trio’s debut self-titled album hit No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and spent a whopping 185 weeks on the chart. The group will be on tour throughout next year, beginning Oct. 24 in St. Louis.
