Hip-hop and reggae artist Peter Fox was the big winner at Germany’s VIVA Comet awards, which were presented for the 14th time in front of nearly 8,000 guests in the sold-out König-Pilsener-Arena in Oberhausen.
Fox received prizes in the categories best video with his track “Alles Neu” and as ‘star of the stars.’ In this special category, all the Comet nominees had voted ahead of the ceremony for their favorite act among all those nominated.
Pop/R&B singer Sarah Connor won a Comet in the best female artist category for the third time after wins in 2005 and 2007.
Pop singer Mark Medlock, voted best newcomer by VIVA viewers in 2008, was awarded the best male artist trophy at this year’s awards. Fellow pop act Monrose won the best band award (and also celebrated their second Comet).
The prize in the best song category went to “Beweg dein Arsch,” a musical collaboration with Scooter and a cover version of the Scooter hit “Move Your Ass.”
The award for the best online star was won by Tokio Hotel, making this their tenth Comet overall. Further winners of the evening were Aloha From Hell (best breakthrough) and Stefanie Heinzmann (best live act).
The 2009 Comet Awards were presented in nine categories. The VIVA viewers themselves decided who was to take the sought-after trophies home with them at the May 29 ceremony.
