Australian dance artist Sam Sparro and Carl Barat, singer with U.K. alternative band Dirty Pretty Things, are among seven curators participating in the inaugural Pepsi Maxcast – a new music initiative where artists and tastemakers showcase their music recommendations via an interactive platform on MySpace.
Other curators include DJ Jodie Harsh, U.K. urban artist Tinchy Stryder and U.K. DJ/Production duo The Loose Cannons, with more to be announced in the coming months.
“All the best music is on MySpace, but finding it is like a needle in a haystack,” said Sam Sparro in a statement. “It’s great to be part of Pepsi Maxcast because it’s going to be the place to discover great music”
According to Bruno Gruwez, Pepsi U.K. Marketing Director, Pepsi Maxcast will target a 20-30 year old demographic and will “help people discover new and live music.”
“It’s a fully-fledged interactive platform that opens up the world of leading artists and tastemakers to the public,” he stated. “It’s a unique platform where people can engage with the best live music presented by our celebrity curators, and for bands to get their music featured.”
Alongside a music player highlighting artist’s personal recommendations, Pepsi Maxcast will feature exclusive “Access All Areas” sections and video profiles providing insights into each of the curators’ lives. Fans can also receive inside gossip and news directly from the artists via a “This Week” area.
Users will be able to post their own gig flyers, recommend new music and vote for new talent to be included on the Maxcast Radar – an unsigned bands’ platform, moderated by the curators, with the winning act featured on Pepsi Maxcast for a week.
