Pentatonix had a surprise up their sleeve during WE Day.
In a behind-the-scenes clip of the upcoming WE Day special broadcast, middle school history teacher Cheryl Fry recalled a time when one of the school’s families lost their belongings in a fire. “The kids were like, ‘What can we do?’ And they came up with a gift card drive and bought the family stuff like Target cards and groceries,” she explained. “Once they touched that, they wanted more. It was almost addicting to them to help others. The kids, they’re everything, they’re our future.”
Little did Fry know, the popular acapella group was standing behind a curtain nearby, listening to her story. Inspired by her answers, Pentatonix popped out from the curtain and surprised Fry.
Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, WE Day brought together youth, parents and educators who work to make a positive change in their communities. The star-studded event also included performances and motivational speeches from Pentatonix, Selena Gomez, Joe Jonas, Bill Nye, Mahershala Ali, Natalie Portman, Hailee Steinfeld, Meghan Trainor and more.
The WE Day Special airs on ABC, Friday, August 9, 2019 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT and made possible by title partner The Allstate Foundation, and by presenting partners Walgreens and Microsoft. Watch the sweet video above.
