Pentatonix has released a greatest hits album titled PTX Japan 5th Anniversary Greatest Hits to celebrate five years since the group’s debut in the country.
Notably, the popular a cappella group recorded an impeccable cover of breakout J-pop band Official HIGE DANdism’s “Pretender.”
The cover is in Japanese, which the members nail in both delivery and pronunciation. “Singing ‘Pretender’ reminded me of when I used to be seriously into J-pop during my teens,” says Mitch Grassi. “I think it’s a really great song, and it was an honor to be able to sing it in Japanese.”
The greatest hits set features 22 tracks, including the group’s Grammy-winning “Daft Punk Medley,” its first Japanese-language medley of Perfume numbers, a mashup of “Despacito” (Luis Fonsi) and “Shape of You” (Ed Sheeran), as well as a number of the group’s original songs and covers of hits old and new such as “Havana” (Camila Cabello), “Bohemian Rhapsody” (Queen), “Shallow” (Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper) and more.
