Pendulum scored their first U.K. No. 1 album and Dizzee Rascal his fourth No. 1 single as the Official Charts Company published its latest sales data on Sunday (May 30).
Pendulum’s “Immersion” (Warner Bros./Warner Music) debuted at the top to succeed the Rolling Stones’ “Exile On Main St.” (Polydor/Universal). The Australian drum & bass/rock outfit’s last studio set “In Silico” opened at No. 2 in the U.K. in May 2008 and went on to spend 29 weeks in the top 75, last appearing briefly in January.
Warner Music also claimed the week’s second-bestselling album as Michael Bublé’s “Crazy Love” (Reprise), which received additional promotion around his recent arena dates in Britain, rebounded 19-2. The album, which had already sold close to 1.2 million copies by the turn of the year, is now five times platinum for U.K. shipments of 1.5 million.
The “Glee” Cast’s latest chart album, “‘Glee’ The Music Vol. 3 Showstoppers” (Epic/Sony Music Entertainment) arrived at No. 3, with singer-songwriter Katie Melua’s “The House” (Dramatico) at No. 4 and the Stones’ reissue down to No. 5. Faithless’ “The Dance” (Nate’s Tunes), which ran “Exile” close for No. 1 last week, dropped 2-9.
Much-lauded English indie band Stornoway’s debut album “Beachcomber’s Windowsill” (4AD) started at No. 14. “Piano Man – The Very Best of Billy Joel” (Columbia/Sony Music Entertainment), first released in 2004, re-charted at No. 17, repromoted by Sony after the recent top 10 success of Fyfe Dangerfield’s cover of Joel’s “She’s Always A Woman.” Dangerfield’s own “Fly Yellow Moon” album (Geffen/Universal) dipped 12-18 in its fifth week.
Dizzee Rascal’s latest singles chart triumph comes with “Dirtee Disco” (Dirtee Stank), a new song from the deluxe edition of his “Tongue N’ Cheek” album, released Monday (May 31). The original album is certified platinum and the OCC puts the rapper’s total U.K. singles sales at over two million.
Dizzee replaced last week’s singles bestseller, B.O.B.’s “Nothing On You” (Rebel Rock/Grand/Hustle/Atlantic/Warner Music) featuring Bruno Mars, which fell to No. 2. Virgin Islands-born artist Iyaz followed January’s chart-topping “Replay” with a No. 3 debut for “Solo” (Reprise/Warner Music) and Eminem’s “Not Afraid” (Interscope) entered at No. 5.
Also making the singles top ten were “We Dance On” (All Around The World/Universal Music TV) by N-Dubz featuring Bodyrox, new at No. 6, and “Eenie Meenie” (RCA/Sony Music Entertainment) by Sean Kingston and Justin Bieber, up 17-10.
AC/DC’s “Iron Man 2” soundtrack (Columbia/Sony Music Entertainment) is in its fifth week atop Billboard’s European Albums chart, while Stromae spends a ninth non-consecutive week at No. 1 on Hot 100 Singles with “Alors On Danse” (Mosaert/Vertigo).
