Simonne Jones has teamed up with “role model” and eccentric electronic musician Peaches for a remix of “Gravity,” which you can listen to now exclusively on Billboard.
“It was exciting for me to collaborate with Peaches because I consider her my role model,” Jones told Billboard about the joint project. “She has encouraged me to be a fearless producer. She is a strong feminist and has redefined the culture of music on her own terms. In the underground scene in music, 16 years ago until now, she has become a leading factor in redefining the terms in which women are culturally perceived in the music industry. She redefined the socially accepted norms of women in music that would otherwise still be considered inappropriate, unacceptable or shocking based on gender alone rather than their artistic significance.”

Peaches first reached out to Jones to collaborate on “Free Pussy Riot,” a song created in protest to the imprisonment of the Russian performance artists. Last year, the two singers also collaborated on a song about vaginoplasty which served, according to Jones, as “a commentary on women reconstructing their private parts to resemble little girls for the sexual pleasure of men.”
“[The vaginoplasty song collaboration] is a bit ironic considering the very first project she asked me create was a 4 meter hairy vagina bed for her rock opera,” Jones said. “It took me 3 weeks, and I would find synthetic hair in my studio in the strangest places, years later.”
To this day, Jones credits Peaches for helping her develop her producing skills; before Peaches’ intervention, Jones was working in a genetics laboratory working with mutated HIV-1 cells.

“She more or less kidnapped me to Berlin, forced me to work on my skills as a producer and make beats in her studio because I also studied engineering at my university and had the technical background,” Jones said. “Fast forward a few years and recently, I produced a track on her Rub remix album coming out June 17th for a track called “Sick in the Head”. I asked her to do the [“Gravity”] remix only a few weeks ago and I absolutely love the version she came up with.”
