Released 12 years after the Beatles split and three years after Wings‘ final album, Paul McCartney — working with producer George Martin, and Stevie Wonder on two tracks — released Tug of War into the world in April 1982.
One of the most mature, confident efforts of his solo career, Tug of War became McCartney’s first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 in six years and produced one of the biggest hits of his solo career, the chart-topping Stevie Wonder duet “Ebony and Ivory.”
That hit brought McCartney and Wonder the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 for seven weeks, and today, Billboard is excited to premiere the 2015 remix of “Ebony and Ivory” from the upcoming Tug of War reissue, out Oct. 2.
Featuring additional vocals and a different mix that brings out the bass a bit more, this version comes from a disc on the reissue boasting a remix of the entire Tug of War album. Pre-order it here and listen to “Ebony and Ivory (2015 Remix)” below.
