Paul Epworth was named producer of the year at the Music Producers Guild (MPG) Awards in London, in recognition for his work on alt-rock artist Florence and the Machine’s debut “Lungs” (Island/Universal).
Florence Welch presented Epworth with the award, sponsored by U.K. labels trade body the BPI, at the Café de Paris last night (Feb. 11). Epworth also received the BRIT Awards producer honor, which goes to the MPG Award winner.
Other award recipients included Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, who received the outstanding contribution to U.K. Music award.
Rick Rubin was named international producer of the year, while rapper Dizzee Rascal’s “Tongue N Cheek” won album of the year.
Muse’s “Uprising” took the single of the year honor and Simian Mobile Disco was named remixer of the year.
“These awards mean a great deal to the U.K.’s professional recording community because they know they are being judged by their peers,” said Steve Levine, chairman of the Music Producers Guild, in a statement.
“Audio professionals are positioned at the very heart of the music industry – we make the content that is the industry’s product. As an organization, the Music Producers Guild is delighted to lead the way in recognizing the wealth of production and engineering creativity we have in this country and bringing about greater awareness, both within the music industry and among the wider public, of the talent and skills involved in making great records.”
Fifteen awards were presented in total. The MPG Awards launched in 2009.
