March 9, 2016. That was the first date of Justin Bieber‘s Purpose Tour. Since then, he’s performed more than 150 shows across six continents. There have been six legs and multiple openers, and a host of new North American dates were recently added — until Bieber pulled the plug on the final leg.
While Bieber’s camp cited “unforeseen circumstances,” some of his musical peers say the cancellation is only sensible. John Mayer tweeted his respect for the move, and the Biebs received massive support from Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos, who let loose a stream of tweets discussing his own physical and mental health issues when forced to tour the world for more than two years at a time.
“I love Passion Pit and I love music even more,” he tweeted. “When something would be wrong, I’d try to ignore it. Then I’d almost die. Really.”
Angelakos’ comments had some fans worried Passion Pit was going on a musical hiatus. The musician cleared up his comments, saying he could never and has never stopped making music. It’s in his blood to create, and he’s about to drop a new album, Tremendous Sea of Love. He just wants to rededicate himself to his craft in a healthier manner, while putting in more time to support the destigmatization of mental health and raise awareness and resources through his Wishart Group.

Until it is safer and healthier for us to be advocates, to be a writers, producers, and performers, I simply cannot continue making music.

History loves to repeat itself and it’s because of systems and their flaws. So, I decided to make solving this issue my priority for now. xo

how many more episodes of behind the music do we need? how many more artists need to die? sexual harassment lawsuits need to be thrown out?
