Last week, Madonna released her graphic video for “God Control,” which finds the singer behind a typewrite as well as in a club with dozens of shot and killed dancers, very similar to the 2016 mass shooting in Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, which killed 49 people and wounded 53 others.
In response, Parkland shooting survivor Emma Gonzalez was not happy with how the gun violence was portrayed. “Madonna’s new video for her song #GodControl was fucked up, it was horrible,” González tweeted in a lengthy thread. “This is NOT the correct way to talk about gun violence, unlike how many fans have been exclaiming—people who have been working in the GVP [Gun Violence Protection] community know how to talk about gun violence, not most celebrities.”
Though there is a warning at the beginning of the video of “disturbing” images, Gonzalez noted Madonna should have been more specific and “should have sent out a message warning what her new video contained, ESPECIALLY to the Pulse Victims, ESPECIALLY as it was released Just After the Anniversary on June 12th.”
Madonna has yet to comment on Gonzalez’s message. See her full string of tweets below.
So I’ve been ruminating on this thread for the past few days, make sure I get the words right.

If you want to support the gun violence prevention movement, donate to the places who need it, in this case the One Pulse Foundation and listen to the actual stories from actual survivors of gun violence. #GodControl

Also if you tweet pictures or videos from the video of #GodControl, please tag it as Triggering for fucks sake
