What’s on Paramore singer Hayley Williams’ mind these days? In addition to looking forward to the Paramore/Jimmy Eat World co-headlining spring tour announced today (Jan. 18), Williams is definitely thinking about the Grammy Awards — the Tennessee quartet is up for Best New Artist — and what she’ll wear to the Feb. 10 ceremony.
“Something other than a T-shirt and Vans, I guess,” Williams tells Billboard.com with a laugh, noting her usual stage attire. “I’ll have to figure it out.”
Williams says she and the rest of Paramore are stoked about the Grammys; the group is interrupting its European tour, flying from Bristol, England to Los Angeles and then immediately back to the U.K. “Who knows when we might get the chance to go to the Grammys again,” Williams notes. “This could be over any minute. It’s been hard to grasp it, really; I think the closer we get to it, the more real it becomes.”
But don’t ask her for a prediction about who will win Best New Artist, the category in which Paramore is up against Feist, Ledisi, Taylor Swift and Amy Winehouse. “I’m scared to say we’re gonna win a Grammy or this person’s not gonna win a Grammy,” Williams explains. “I just want to go and have fun and be there.”
Besides the Grammys, Paramore is currently fleshing out the rest of its 2008 plans. With “Riot’s” second single, “Crushcrushcrush,” climbing the charts, the group will be in Europe with New Found Glory until the end of February. They will return to the U.S. for the kick off of the tour co-headliningg with Jimmy Eat World in March. Dates, cities, on-sale dates and other details for the Paramore/Jimmy Eat World tour have not yet been announced, but Williams is excited about the pairing. “If it all ends tomorrow, we will be happy knowing that we got a tour with the band that gave us a reason to play music,” Williams says.
Paramore is also scheduled to play the Bamboozle Left and Bamboozle Festival in the spring and hopes to appear at some European festivals this summer. “Of course, I want to do more Warped Tour dates,” Williams adds, “…because it’s, like, my favorite tour ever. We’ll see what works out and hopefully just have another great year.”
A third Paramore album, however, is on the back burner for now. “We write all the time, just for fun, but we haven’t put a lot of thought into where we’re gonna go next,” Williams says. “There’s still a lot more to come from ‘Riot,’ I believe. We want to let it run its course for as long as it can. Once things really start slowing down, we’ll be ready to put out a new record.”
