As rumors swirl about the state of his 34-year marriage to Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy Osbourne released a statement on Monday denying that the turmoil was caused by a drug or alcohol relapse. The heavy metal icon was in the news over the weekend when reports surfaced claiming he and Sharon had split up and that Ozzy had moved out of their home.
On Monday night the Black Sabbath singer — who battled addiction issues on and off for nearly four decades — issued a statement to E! News in which he said, “I have been sober for three and a quarter years. I have not touched drugs or alcohol in that time. Any reports that I am not sober are completely innacurate.”
In the midst of the turmoil, Sharon Osbourne did not take a seat on the panel of her daily talk show on Monday, with The Talk co-host Julie Chen telling the audience, “Sharon is not here today. There were many tabloid headlines of her and Ozzy, rumors and speculations that they have split up after nearly 34 years of marriage. Sharon understandably took today off and we are sending all of our love to her and to her family. And we ask that you do the same.”
Ozzy is slated to appear with Slipknot’s Corey Taylor on May 12 in what has been teased as a “very special announcement.” A rep for Osbourne said that the metal icon will be “honoring all of his commitments.”
