Days after the announcement that Ozzy Osbourne is retiring as the headliner of Ozzfest, the festival has canceled what was to be the final show of the 2005 tour. The performance was originally scheduled for Aug. 7 at Floatrite Park in Somerset, Wis., but was then moved to Sept. 10 to accommodate doctors’ orders that Osbourne not perform consecutive shows with Black Sabbath.
However, a number of Ozzfest acts were unable to change their itineraries to regroup for the new date. “[Organizers] felt it was best to cancel the show instead of mounting anything less than a spectacular event, as fans have come to expect from the festival over the course of 10 years,” according to a statement.
Ozzfest will now close Sept. 4 in West Palm Beach, Fla. The tour’s next show is tomorrow (Aug. 18) in Phoenix.
In related news, Osbourne and Black Sabbath are plotting a Canadian tour in early 2006 and will attempt to include a show in the Minneapolis area to make up for the Ozzfest cancellation.
